At only four years of age, Lucas Blondeel began to make music on the 19th century fortepiano that stood for sale in his parent's art gallery. After his studies with Levente Kende and Heidi Hendrickx at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp, he moved to Berlin in 2004 to become a pupil of Professor Klaus Hellwig at the Universität der Künste.
Lucas Blondeel was a three-time recipient of the Cantabile prize, and in 2002 was a first prizewinner in the Emmanuel Durlet International Piano Competition in Antwerp. In 2005, a third prize at the Arthur-Schnabel-Wettbewerb in Berlin and first prize at the Kurt-Leimer-Wettbewerb in Zürich followed. At the Concours de Genève he won the special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary Swiss work. In 2007, he finished among the best six pianists at the acclaimed Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey and was also a semi-finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. In 2011 he was a prizewinner at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati.
Lucas Blondeel has a vast amount of performances to his name. Since 1995, he has performed in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras on the stages of Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Bulgaria, Finland, Britain and Singapore.
Alongside his solo career, he enjoys playing chamber music. His passion for Lieder was rewarded with the prize for best Lied-accompanist at the La Voce Competition of the Bavarian Radio in Bayreuth.
To improve his performances of the classical repertoire, Lucas Blondeel spent many years studying historical performance and fortepiano with Jos Van Immerseel and Bart Van Oort. He strongly believes that the analytical and rhetorical aspect of the historical approach must find its place in modern piano playing and wants to play a role in bringing these two worlds closer together.
He hosts a musical salon at his apartment in Berlin, discussing and playing music for very mixed audiences.
A first CD with the Schubert Impromptus (Klara 2007) was followed by Für Marianne with music by Haydn (Cyprès 2010). Both recordings were acclaimed by public and critics alike. The Bavarian, Catalan, Dutch and Belgian classical radios broadcast his concerts and recordings regularly.
Lucas Blondeel was awarded important scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
Lucas Blondeel, 1981 in Brüssel geboren, begann bereits mit vier Jahren auf einem Hammerflügel des 19. Jahrhunderts zu spielen, das im Antiquitätengeschäft seiner Eltern zum Verkauf eingestellt war. Nach seinem Klavierstudium am Königlichen Musikkonservatorium in Antwerpen bei Levente Kende und Heidi Hendrickx zog er 2004 nach Berlin um Schüler von Professor Klaus Hellwig an der Universität der Künste zu werden. Schon früh gewann er verschiedene Wettbewerbe. Dreimal war er unter den Siegern des Cantabile-Wettbewerbes (Antwerpen 1992-94-98), 2002 gewann er den Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb “Emmanuel Durlet", 2005 war er Dritter im “Arthur-Schnabel-Wettbewerb" in Berlin und erster im “Kurt-Leimer-Wettbewerb" in Zürich. Beim “Concours de Genève" gewann er den Preis für die beste Interpretation eines Schweizer Werkes. 2007 war er einer der sechs besten Pianisten im berühmten “Clara Haskil Concours" in Vevey. Er war außerdem Halbfinalist im "Königin-Elisabeth-Wettbewerb" in Brüssel.
Lucas Blondeel konzertierte seit 1995 auf verschiedenen Bühnen in Belgien, Finnland, Singapur, Spanien, den Niederlanden, Deutschland, Bulgarien und Frankreich. Neben seinen solistischen Aktivitäten spielt er auch viel Kammermusik. Seine Leidenschaft zum Deutschen Lied brachte ihm 2008 einen Sonderpreis als bester Klavierpartner beim Liedwettbewerb des Bayerischen Rundfunks ein. Zur Verbesserung seiner Interpretation von klassischen Komponisten, studierte er jahrelang intensiv Hammerflügel bei Spezialisten wie Jos Van Immerseel und Bart Van Oort. Lucas Blondeel glaubt, dass die analytische und rhetorische Spielart der historischen Aufführungspraxis einen Platz im modernen Klavierspiel verdient und strebt es an, diese zwei Welten zusammenzubringen. Lucas Blondeel ist regelmäßig "Gastherr" eines eigenen Musiksalons in seiner Wohnung in Berlin-Wedding. Dort spielt er und diskutiert über Musik mit einem sehr bunten Publikum.
Er veröffentlichte zwei Aufnahmen: Die Schubert Impromptus (2008) beim Label des flämischen Rundfunks und eine Haydn-CD (2010) beim Label Cyprès.
Lucas Blondeel ist Stipendiat der Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben und der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
